On July 8, 2026, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) released an updated edition of its Asian Development Outlook, projecting that developing Asia and the Pacific would grow by 4.9% in 2026. The report said prolonged disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East had increased energy and transportation costs, placing additional pressure on manufacturing activity and regional supply chains. Continued uncertainty in the global trading environment and softer external demand were also expected to weigh on exports across several Asian economies. Despite these challenges, the ADB said resilient domestic consumption, infrastructure investment, and the expansion of the digital economy should continue to support regional growth.
The report identified China, India, and Southeast Asian economies as the principal drivers of economic expansion while cautioning that policymakers would need to manage risks stemming from weaker global demand, tighter financial conditions, and geopolitical uncertainty. Because developing Asia remains one of the world's largest contributors to global economic growth, the updated outlook is closely monitored by governments, investors, and international financial institutions.
