New York, United Nations Headquarters — September 26, 2025. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a forceful address at the UN General Assembly’s General Debate, reiterating Israel’s determination to “finish the job in Gaza” and sharply criticizing recent moves by several countries to recognize a Palestinian state.
“Finish the Job” in Gaza and Warning to Hamas
Netanyahu declared that Israel must “quickly finish the job in Gaza” to prevent a repeat of the October 7, 2023, attacks. He issued an ultimatum to Hamas, demanding that it lay down its weapons and “release all the hostages,” warning that Israel’s military campaign would continue otherwise.
He praised the Israeli military’s response to the October 7 assault as “one of the most remarkable military comebacks in history.” Reports indicated that his office broadcast parts of his speech into Gaza via loudspeakers along the border and through selected phone networks in the territory.
Rejection of Palestinian Statehood Efforts
Netanyahu harshly condemned the recent recognition of a Palestinian state by countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. He described these moves as “disgraceful decisions” that sent the message that “murdering Jews pays off.”
He stressed that Israel would not be forced to accept a “terror state” and labeled efforts to advance Palestinian statehood as “insane” and a “blow to peace.” He reaffirmed that opposing Palestinian statehood is the policy of “the State of Israel and the people of Israel.”
Tensions with the International Community
Netanyahu asserted that while many nations publicly criticize Israel, they privately thank Israeli intelligence for helping thwart terror attacks in their capitals. “Israel is fighting your battles,” he declared.
He also rejected accusations that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and dismissed the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against him and other officials as a “false charge.”
Nonetheless, his address faced visible resistance. As he began his speech, dozens of delegations walked out in protest, underscoring Israel’s growing isolation on the world stage after nearly two years of war in Gaza.
