On November 26, 2025, the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly unanimously adopted twin resolutions for the 2025 review of the UN peacebuilding architecture. Security Council Resolution 2805 and its General Assembly counterpart aim to enhance the implementation and impact of UN peacebuilding activities at the field level. The resolutions affirm that investing in conflict prevention is a highly cost-effective solution that saves lives, stabilizes economies, and reduces the need for costly military responses.
They request the Peacebuilding Commission to establish a detailed and flexible annual program of work and to strengthen its impact through regular monitoring and assessment of the implementation of its outcomes. Furthermore, an annual "peacebuilding week" will be established in June to raise public awareness of the UN's peacebuilding and sustaining peace efforts, reinforcing the global commitment to addressing the root causes of conflict.
