According to data from the state statistics agency Rosstat reported on November 27, 2025, Russian companies saw a sharp 25% year-on-year increase in total losses, reaching 6.52 trillion rubles ($83.3 billion) for the January-September period. The number of loss-making firms rose by 11% to 18,400. Critical sectors were particularly hard-hit, with 68.1% of coal mining companies, 54.7% of electricity and gas suppliers, and over half of water and waste services firms operating at a loss.

Widespread payment delays exacerbated the situation, with nearly 40% of companies reporting problems with overdue payments, largely linked to state-owned companies delaying settlements under government contracts. Concurrently, business investment weakened significantly, with capital expenditure growth slowing dramatically.
