UN Secretary-General Reiterates Call for Two-State Solution on International Day of Solidarity

On November 29, 2025, UN Secretary-General António Guterres used his message for the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People to reiterate his call for "irreversible progress toward a two-state solution." He stated that this year's observance follows two years of horrific suffering in Gaza and the start of a much-needed ceasefire, with survivors mourning tens of thousands of deaths, and hunger, disease, and trauma running rampant.

Guterres underscored that "the killing of so many civilians, the repeated displacement of an entire population and the obstruction of humanitarian aid should never be acceptable under any circumstances." He stressed the vital importance of all parties fully respecting the ceasefire and working in good faith towards solutions that uphold international law.

The Secretary-General further emphasized the need for lifesaving aid to enter Gaza at scale and continued firm international support for UNRWA, repeating his call to end the unlawful occupation and achieve a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 lines with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.
