Russia Confirms Peace Talks in "Final Stage," Awaits U.S. Information for Assessment

On December 29, 2025, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia agreed with U.S. President Trump's assessment that negotiations on a Ukraine "peace agreement" had entered their "final stage". This followed his confirmation on December 25 that a new version of a draft "peace plan" submitted by a Russian presidential envoy was under analysis. The Russian statement came after a meeting between U.S. President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on December 28.

Peskov emphasized that Moscow needed to receive relevant information from Washington to assess the outcome of that meeting and noted that a further phone talk between the Russian and U.S. leaders would occur "in the near future".
