BEIJING, August 7, 2026 — China’s exports rose 23.9% year on year in July, according to customs data, extending strong export growth despite weaker domestic demand. Imports increased 27.5%, while China’s goods trade surplus reached $687.4 billion in the first seven months of 2026. High-technology products were a major contributor: exports of integrated circuits nearly doubled in July to a record $38.7 billion, while high-tech exports rose 41% in the first seven months.
The figures highlight the growing importance of technology-intensive manufacturing and overseas demand. They also add to trade tensions with major partners, particularly the European Union, where policymakers have raised concerns about China’s expanding industrial exports and their impact on local manufacturers. China’s exports to the United States rose 17% in July, while other markets also supported overall growth. The strong trade performance contrasts with weaker consumption and investment reported earlier in the summer. For global markets, the data underline China’s role as a major supplier while intensifying debate over trade imbalances, industrial capacity and supply chains.
