HEFEI, China, September 20, 2026 — Chinese memory-chip maker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) said its fifth-generation dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) technology platform has entered mass production, further expanding its presence in the global memory-chip market. CXMT announced the G5 platform and two new LPDDR5X products at the 2026 World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei.

Higher Density and Wafer Efficiency

CXMT said the G5 platform uses quadruple-patterning technology to reduce the active-area half-pitch of its DRAM memory array to 11.95 nanometres.

According to the company, the platform can produce at least 50% more gross dies per wafer than its fourth-generation technology, based on an 8-gigabit density baseline. CXMT also introduced two 24-gigabit LPDDR5X products, saying their capacity is 50% higher than comparable previous-generation products. The chips are aimed at smartphones and other portable electronics and are already in mass production.

CXMT said the process improvements are intended to increase memory density while improving power efficiency and cost competitiveness.

Competition in the Global DRAM Market

DRAM is widely used in smartphones, personal computers and servers. Demand has also grown with the expansion of artificial-intelligence infrastructure, including AI servers and data centers.

The market remains concentrated among Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and Micron Technology. TrendForce data showed Samsung held 39.4% of global DRAM revenue in the second quarter of 2026, followed by SK hynix at 24.9% and Micron at 23.3%. CXMT ranked fourth with a 9.5% share.

CXMT’s latest platform adds another source of supply to a market dominated by the three established manufacturers.

Significance for China’s Memory-Chip Industry

The G5 platform could expand China’s domestic DRAM supply and increase CXMT’s production capabilities. Its development comes as Chinese semiconductor companies seek to strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign technologies and suppliers.

The 11.95-nanometre figure refers specifically to the active-area half-pitch of the memory array and is not directly equivalent to a conventional process-node designation. CXMT’s wafer-output comparison is also based on its own fourth-generation platform and an 8-gigabit baseline.

The commercial impact of the new platform will depend on CXMT’s ability to maintain yields, scale production and expand customer adoption. Its mass production nevertheless adds to competition in the global DRAM market.
