NEW YORK, October 6, 2026 — Google has agreed to secure 3,590 megawatts of electricity from Constellation Energy under long-term power agreements, as the technology company seeks to meet rising electricity demand from data centers, including those supporting artificial intelligence. The agreements include 890 MW of additional nuclear capacity and a separate 2,700 MW power supply arrangement within the PJM Interconnection grid.
890 MW of Additional Nuclear Capacity
Under a 20-year power purchase agreement, Constellation will upgrade 11 nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey to add 890 MW of generation capacity. The projects will increase the efficiency and output of existing reactors rather than involve the construction of new nuclear plants.
The first upgraded facility is expected to begin supplying electricity in 2028. Constellation plans to invest more than $4.3 billion in its generation fleet under the agreement. The projects are expected to support about 4,400 existing jobs and create roughly 7,200 construction jobs.
Broader 3.59 GW Power Agreement
The 890 MW nuclear agreement accounts for about one-quarter of the total 3.59 GW arrangement. Google has also signed a separate 15-year agreement covering 2,700 MW of electricity from Constellation's PJM generation fleet.
That supply is not tied to a specific generation source and is designed to provide long-term revenue certainty for Constellation's operating assets.
The agreements come as PJM, which operates the largest U.S. electricity grid, faces rapidly rising demand from data centers. Reuters has reported that PJM capacity prices have increased more than elevenfold since 2024, while the grid has faced concerns over future power availability.
AI Demand Supports Renewed Interest in Nuclear Power
The agreements reflect a broader effort by major technology companies to secure reliable, large-scale electricity supplies as demand for AI computing grows. Nuclear power has become increasingly attractive to technology companies because existing reactors can provide steady, carbon-free electricity around the clock.
Amazon recently reached a 20-year agreement with Constellation covering up to 690 MW of electricity from its nuclear fleet, including 190 MW of additional capacity expected from upgrades at Maryland's Calvert Cliffs plant.
Constellation shares rose more than 13% in morning trading on October 6 following the Google announcement.
