SEOUL, South Korea, June 22, 2026 — OpenAI has signed an enterprise agreement with Samsung Electronics to deploy ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to more than 120,000 employees globally, according to the companies.

The deployment will cover Samsung’s global operations, including its Device eXperience (DX) division and other business units. The companies said the tools are intended to support a range of internal applications, including software development, product design, manufacturing processes, marketing, customer support, and administrative functions.

Samsung Electronics employs approximately 262,000 people worldwide, according to its most recent regulatory filings. The DX division, which oversees smartphones and consumer electronics, and the Device Solutions (DS) semiconductor division account for a significant portion of the company’s global workforce.

Enterprise AI Rollout Across Business Units

The planned deployment extends access to generative AI tools across multiple Samsung business units. While the companies did not disclose detailed rollout timelines, the agreement represents a large-scale internal implementation of AI tools within the organization.

Enterprise adoption of generative AI systems has increased in recent years, particularly in large multinational corporations, as companies explore applications for internal productivity and workflow optimization.

Codex to Support Software Engineering Tasks

The agreement also includes deployment of Codex, OpenAI’s AI system designed to assist with software engineering tasks such as code generation, review, and debugging.

According to OpenAI, Codex is intended to support developers by streamlining parts of the software development workflow. The specific implementation and use cases at Samsung were not disclosed.

Security and Governance Considerations

Enterprise use of generative AI systems typically involves data security, compliance, and governance requirements.

OpenAI states that ChatGPT Enterprise is designed with administrative controls and data protection features intended to support organizational deployment. Samsung has not publicly detailed its internal governance framework for the rollout.

For multinational companies operating across multiple jurisdictions, data handling and intellectual property protection remain key considerations in enterprise AI adoption.

AI Expansion and Industry Context

The broader adoption of generative AI tools has contributed to increased demand for computing infrastructure, including advanced semiconductor components used in AI workloads.

Industry observers have noted that the expansion of AI applications is influencing demand across both software and hardware sectors, although the specific impact varies by company and use case.

Ongoing Enterprise Adoption of AI Tools

The agreement reflects a continuing trend among large organizations integrating generative AI tools into internal systems beyond pilot programs.

The long-term operational impact of large-scale enterprise AI deployments remains under evaluation as companies continue to adapt digital workflows and automation strategies.
