On September 11, 2026, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during an interview in India that Russia does not threaten European countries and has no reason for conflict with Europe. He stressed that some European countries are considering deploying troops to Ukraine, which would mean war with Russia, and described the situation in Europe as the consequence of systematic Western errors in politics, security and economics.
A day earlier, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, said claims that Russia plans to attack Europe are used by European leaders to justify aid to Ukraine and to seek geopolitical defeat of Russia. Medvedev also said there is no new military mobilization plan, as contract recruitment has met or exceeded targets. The statements came on the eve of Russia's State Duma elections and after U.S. envoy Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Kushner completed shuttle diplomacy and a one-hour call between Putin and Trump.
